  • Why Rootfin For Life Insurance With Hepatitis C?

Life Insurance is Boring. Let’s Get To The Root Of It! Here are the key takeaways…

When obtaining life insurance with Hepatitis C, the two most significant factors that will be considered are how long your hepatitis C has been in remission and how much liver damage has occurred due to hepatitis C.

Obtaining Life Insurance With Hepatitis C

Life Insurance with Hepatitis C

Getting life insurance after being diagnosed with Hep C is based on two key factors:

  1. How much damage has the liver sustained
  2. Is your Hep C in remission

The best term life insurance rates are for applicants who have been in remission for a while and have very minor damage to their liver. These rates are in the Standard health class.

If you have Hep C and have some damage to your liver, then you’re going to be considered a substandard risk. This means you’re going to pay more for your insurance, but you won’t be rejected.

To get better rates, having a liver biopsy to show your liver health can show the insurance company you aren’t high-risk. Although a liver biopsy is recommended, it’s not required to secure life insurance with Hepatitis C.

Hepatitis C Life Insurance Information We Need To Know

  • When were you diagnosed?
  • Which kind of Hep C were you diagnosed with: Acute Viral Hepatitis C, Chronic Persistent Hepatitis C, or Chronic Active Hepatitis C?
  • What are your most current liver enzymes? (if you don’t know them, are they under control?)
  • Which prescriptions are you taking? (such as Interferon or Ribavirin) If so, how often and how much?
  • Do you drink alcohol? If so, how often and how much?
  • How often do you monitor your liver functions? (annually, semi-annually, etc.)
  • What studies have been done to diagnose/treat the condition? (liver biopsy, CT scan, MRI, etc.) and what were the results? (normal/abnormal)
  • Have you been diagnosed with other health problems?

If you want to make the process easier, you should have all of this information ready before you call the agent. This will make it go quicker and help the agent get a clear picture of your overall health.

Aside from the Hep C diagnosis, the agent is going to ask you a lot of general questions about your health. How much do you weigh? Do you smoke? How often do you exercise? etc.

If you want to secure a better health class, you should do everything you can to be the lowest risk possible.

What Makes Us Different Than Other Agencies?

We Obtain Tentative Offers

We’ll take the information you give us above and send it anonymously to the life insurance companies that are most aggressive with Hepatitis C. Once we receive written responses from all of them, we’ll present you with the best option.

This is considered a “tentative offer.” This means as long as you were detailed and truthful and the life insurance company doesn’t find anything else, this is the rate they have to offer. It’s in writing and we attach it to your application.

I would estimate that only 5% of agencies are doing this for their clients. Why? Because it takes a lot of time upfront and most agencies aren’t willing to commit to this. We are.

We, Will, Create Cover Letters Detailing Your Hep C and Overall Health

A cover letter is attached on top of an application and paints a picture of your risk to an underwriter.

For instance, we typically describe why you want this life insurance, how important this coverage is for your family or business and we’ll detail your Hepatitis C in the cover letter in the most favorable light to influence the underwriter.

Underwriters love reading these cover letters. It gives the underwriter an emotional attachment rather than an application, lab slip, and medical records.

It’s been extremely helpful in obtaining favorable underwriting decisions.

Burial Insurance With Hepatitis C

Burial insurance policies are small, whole life insurance policies guaranteed level for the rest of your life.  Typically reserved for those ages 50-80 years old. There’s no medical exam involved and you simply have to answer a series of health questions to qualify.

The trick is finding a company that will take Hepatitis C. Here’s what our research of over 25 burial insurance companies has found:

Best Bet: Liberty Bankers is the only carrier that will take your risk if you currently have Hepatitis C. Even if you have Cirrhosis of the liver. Everyone else will offer you a 2-year waiting period and be much more expensive.

If you’ve been cured, or Hepatitis C free for over 24 months, Royal Neighbors will also be an option for first-day coverage without a 2-year waiting period.

The takeaway from this is if you’ve been declined for life insurance because of your Hepatitis C, Liberty Bankers will likely be an option for you to secure up to $30,000 of coverage.
